Putting the Local in Local Business

Facebook is great for promoting local businesses but many business owners fail to explicitly mention where they're business is.
For businesses with a physical store or office and a street address, this is pretty straightforward, most businesses add this in.

However it's the service-based businesses without an office (think a lot of tradies, landscape services and similar) that neglect to add any location details to their page.

For me, I work from home, and I can work with clients nationwide, however majority of my clients and referrals are local and I prefer to work with local businesses and organisations so below are a few examples of what I might ad to my page and posts.

"📍Manawatū based." or "working remotely from Palmerston North"

For other businesses this could look like "Palmerston North based servicing the Manwatū and beyond"

If your city or region is Auckland you might want to go as narrow as your suburb, especially if you offer something like lawn mowing or barber services and want to be known as 'the local'.

It may be fair if you don't want to exclude anyone by stating a more narrow location however I would say the focus should be on attracting your ideal customers who are probably those most local to you.

Your location is obvious to you as the business owner, but often it's a case of making it obvious to everyone else.
Local Facebook ads

Many service based business have their boosted post showing across the country and probably aren't even aware of it.
